The trend towards teamwork forges ahead in fits and starts, finding favour with companies for a range of reasons.

Many hands make light work

The more minds, expertise, and talents brought to bear, the better. It's about everyone playing their part.

No man is an island

The lines of communication between employees are opened. It's an opportunity to learn from others and so no person becomes indispensable.

Not a job for amateurs

The trouble is, too many firms jumped in feet first, only to be left shuffling them after team members lost their way, setting a course for disaster. They forgot that it takes skill to make teams work. It place of a team they created:

A club

Patchworks of people, untrained in teamwork, relief from “real” work and not paid for their performance

A herd

A clique of conformists; run by the one who pulls rank. Tunnel vision: the blind leading the blind

A melting pot

A hotch potch; a battle ground; disparate characters, abilities, social skills, confidence, all on a course to self destruct
